We are in full swing of Christmas traditions and holiday baking over here. I love this time of year so much. And it just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter with kids. Shep will be celebrating his first Christmas and I know he has no clue what is going on but it’s just so special to celebrate with him. He truly is the greatest gift and we have so much to celebrate this year.

One thing I look forward to every year is baking lots of yummy treats with my girls and this year has been no different. We’ve been baking away and the girls, of course, love all the taste testing going on. This time of year there is no shortage of treats and goodies around and I love making healthier versions that won’t give us a sugar rush. Especially since this time of year, there are so many sicknesses and sugar actually lowers our immune systems so I’m doing everything I can to keep them healthy too. If you want to stay healthy and avoid the flu this year, check out this blog post where I share my top 5 ways to avoid the flu.

If you love chocolate and peppermint you’re going to love these Chocolate Dipped Candy Cane Cookies. The cookies are soft and moist and the dipped chocolate with crushed canes on top adds so much holiday cheer with each bite.

Easy Healthier Swaps

Dark chocolate tends to have less sugar than milk chocolate but you can use any chocolate here. Even white chocolate would be really yummy. I love using either a dark chocolate bar or dark chocolate chips that are dairy-free and lower in sugar. And if you want a healthier swap for candy canes grab some Wholesome (Target carries them!) candy canes. They are dye-free, corn syrup free, and have no artificial colors. Just another easy healthier swap idea to make creating a healthier lifestyle that much easier. It truly is all about the little swaps because those add up to big results. Don’t be fooled into thinking they don’t matter. They do. That’s why I love sharing healthier swaps with you because little by little you’ll begin to create some really good habits and see some big results.

Grab your kids, they will love dipping the cookies and sprinkling the candy cane pieces on top of each cookie! It would be a fun project for them during Christmas break to keep them busy. Hope you enjoy this classic combination as much as I do. If you need some other holiday cookie ideas be sure to check out my Healthy Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies that taste just like the classic and melt in your mouth, Healthier Puppy Chow that is currently my favorite, or frosted gluten-free sugar cookies (another fun cookie to make with kids!).

Off to do more baking, dancing to Christmas music, and snuggling with my babies while we watch Christmas movies. Home Alone and Elf are our favorites right now. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
