Why You Should Be Drinking More Water
Ever wonder if you're drinking enough water? Maybe you’ve been told you should drink 8 glasses of water each day.
It’s true that staying hydrated is one of the simplest yet most powerful things you can do for your health.
Why? Because we’re literally made out of it! In fact, the body of a newborn baby is 78% water. That amount decreases with age. An adult female body is at least 55% water while an adult male body is at least 60% water.
It’s a necessity for the function of every organ in your body. Take your brain for example. There’s a reason you can’t think as clearly when you’re dehydrated: your brain is 73% water! And you might even notice difficulty breathing when dehydrated. That’s because your lungs are 83% water. And your heart: it too is 73% water.
The recommended water consumption can vary based on different factors like weight, activity level, and the climate you live in. But if you need a general guide to follow, women should drink 90 ounces (11 cups) of fluids per day and men should drink 125 ounces (16 cups) per day.
